Welcome and first blog!

Welcome! To all who read this post, first time post, of the Working Moms Freedom. I personally have been a working mom for 31 years, since the birth of my first of four children. I have always felt the need to work, outside the home, and desired more recently the ability to also work from home. I have watched, listened and learned over the years how guilty many of us feel in leaving our children in the hands of a caretaker, be it a relative or an outside source of daycare. I have felt it myself and wondered if this was a selfish pursuit. I have read and studied and listened to the arguments of Mom being at home versus Mom going outside the home to work. I have heard heated debate, mostly people who are defending their own choices, about the benefits of their children learning from many others and not just from their moms and dads at home; of others who angrily describe the horrors of daycare and the harm it has created in children feeling a lack of attachment to their parents and family of origin. My conclusion, watching my own children, is that we are all individuals, we all make different choices, and some are mistakes, some not but it appears that whether mom is home or out working, the real key is the love and attention when she and other members of the family are with their children. If the feeling is guilt and Mom is trying to make up for lost time, chances are she doesn't feel good and conveys this to her children. Some anxiety results in the children each time Mom is gone, thus reinforcing her guilt and need to be home. So my solution is to stay home if your guilt is that intense. These days, finding work from home is not the difficulty it once was. For those Moms able to resolve the feelings (me) and go outside the home to work, bravo and keep up the good work! But you may also be thinking working from home is the answer these days with costs going up and gas out of sight. So any and all who read this and want to add posts, please do. I welcome the addition to anything I post. I welcome any recommendations for working Moms for working at home, from home, outside home etc. I will be making my own recommendations for all as well. Hopefully, wherever you are today, you are enjoying your life and family. I know I am. :) Diane
